Thrifted Treasures #1

Okay I'll admit I am waaaaaaay late to the thrifting craze but now that I've started I just cannot get over the thrill of finding little treasures (and the prices don't hurt either!). I've even managed to get The Boy into it!

Now on to today's treasure.
The Boy looooves Monopoly and we have been looking around for a monopoly game that wasn't seriously overpriced. When did boardgames get so expensive? Everywhere we went Monopoly was $60!!!

Then one day we were walking by the huge thrift store by our house and we wandered in (looking for a large pot for him and books for me). We went back to the toy section and looked through all the games with no luck. It was then that The Boy pointed out a sign warning parents to keep an eye on their kids. It was worded rather rudely in english and in french and we were giggling about it when my eyes dropped to the shelf below......and there it was......

MONOPOLY!!!!

My jaw literally dropped and all I could do was point.

At this point The Boy ripped open the box, took everything out and began counting cards and checking pieces. The game was well loved but all the pieces were there except the dice and the little figures. And the best part?

It was $3.99!

Let me tell you we grabbed that game and booted it to the cash, the whole time thinking we were about to be Monopoly mugged by some other crazy boardgame obsessed person. Luckily we made it out alive! A quick trip to the dollar store for some dice and my donation of two mini nailpolishes as place markers and we were all set for our first game (I lost).

Our 'men'. I'm the pink...of course!

And there you have the story of a thrifted treasure!

P.S. We played again last night and I kicked butt!!!!
